Planning a movie night? While it might be easy to pick something to watch with family and/or friends, it’s not always so easy to agree on what to eat. It’s the old, “What are you hungry for?” followed by, “I don’t know, what are you hungry for?” back and forth that can bog down the best of evenings. So it goes with movie night in many households.
The movie is all queued up, the lights are dimmed, but what is there to snack on? Here are some great snack ideas for your next movie or TV marathon:
Soft pretzels. Use your bread machine to make the dough beforehand, shape, bake and enjoy! Eat them plain, salted or dipped in cheese. Here’s the recipe.
Fruits and Vegetables. Sliced apples or celery with peanut butter, berries, mini carrots, broccoli bites and fruits like pears and peaches are healthy-yet-delicious alternatives to candies and items with a lot of saturated fat. If you want to get really creative, you can even arrange the slices into smiley faces or dinosaurs. Get as artistic as you want, and have fun with it!
Fruit and cheese. You can use this recipe, or make your own fruit and cheese board with grapes, sliced fruit, berries, cheese and/or nuts, if desired.
Nuts. Speaking of nuts, they are high in Vitamin E and Omega-3 Fatty acids, both of which can contribute to heart and brain health. Since they’re bite-sized, they’re also easy to share and are a hearty addition to your snack selection — as long as no one has a nut allergy.
Pretzels. These tasty bagged snacks can be dipped in peanut butter, hummus or even chocolate! Here are some great dip ideas. You can even make this Chocolate Pretzel recipe ahead of time.
Chips and salsa. You can make your own salsa using this easy recipe or use salsa from the store.
Popcorn. What list of movie night snack ideas would be complete without popcorn? Here’s a great list of dozens of ways to enjoy popcorn. Another idea that combines a host of favorite ingredients: Salted Caramel Popcorn Bars with Marshmallow and Chocolate.
Pizza. Did everyone get really hungry for something more filling? Pop a pizza in oven or order in and you’ll have something a bit more filling for everyone to enjoy in no time.
Have fun with movie night, and try your hand at preparing some of these snacks.
